Knotwood is easy to maintain and requires minimal effort to retain it's appeal.

Maintenance

Knotwood does not require restaining, re-coating or resealing. However, to maintain the look of your powder coated aluminium , all surfaces require washing all over. Like any application, a regular wash will keep your investment looking it’s best. Washing with a soft brush and mild pH neutral detergent followed by thorough rinsing with fresh water will ensure that substances such as airborne salts, dirt and pollutants detrimental to the long term performance of the powder coated film are removed.

Where the atmosphere is deemed to be non-hazardous such as rural or normal urban environments, cleaning must take place at least every 12 months. In areas subject to high pollution such as industrial areas, geothermal environments or coastal environments then the cleaning frequency should be increased. In particularly hazardous locations such as beach fronts, marine environments or areas of high industrial pollution the period between cleaning should be reduced to monthly.

Wash the surface with a mild solution of ph neutral car wash or detergent in warm water.

Application should be with a sponge, soft cloth or soft bristle nylon brush, and should be gentle to prevent shiny spots.

If cared for in this way, your Knotwood application should give many years of easy maintenance life.

Care

Painting around your house exterior may cause paint splashes to mar the appearance of your Knotwood. Such splashes should be removed with fresh water immediately. Using solvents on your joinery puts it at risk of damage. If paint splashes need to be removed then White Spirits may be used provided that the surfaces are thoroughly washed with a soft brush and mild pH neutral detergent followed by thorough rinsing with fresh water immediately afterwards. It is recommended that the solvent be tested for suitability on a non-visible powder coated section prior to its use.

When using Knotwood decks we recommend protective mats or furniture pads are used to protect against contact from sources such as furniture legs, BBQ’s or planter stands. Minimise dragging furniture & heavy objects along the deck. Consider adding rubber stops to furniture legs, as you would do to reduce the likelihood of scratching a wooden deck.

Some non slip coating systems may require resealing and cleaning procedures. Ensure to always follow the sealer manufacturer’s recommendations.

Strong and abrasive household cleaners and solvents such as those recommended for thinning various types of paints such as MEK or paint thinners are harmful to powder coating and must not be used for cleaning purposes under any circumstances. Acidic, alkaline or alcohol-based cleaning products should not be used either.
